简介:
I am a 26 year old American male from Portland, Oregon who has a strong interest in moving from USA to China in the future to pursue teaching ESL classes to Chinese students. I am a native English speaker from the USA and fluent bilingual Spanish speaker who knows a little bit of French. My educational background includes having studied geology at the University of Oregon from 2012-2016 with accompanying coursework in the business and Spanish departments. Since October 2019 I am currently learning Mandarin Chinese online via Rosetta Stone\'s learning platform and my goal is to one day reach HSK3 proficiency.
I have completed my 160-hour TEFL certification program led by TEFL Fullcircle with the intent of using it as a stepping stone to becoming an official English teacher living abroad in Beijing/China. After completion and throughout this process I have started reaching out to various teaching opportunities in different regions.
I began compiling my documents and have been researching the prospect of relocating to Beijing to teach for quite some time.
I have one year of experience tutoring high school students in the subject of Spanish. I am very fortunate to have had excellent foreign language teachers in my younger years who inspired me to keep learning the language as well as allowed me to give back to my former school program by offering up my tutoring skills. I worked in small group settings, as well as one-on-one to tutor students in the subject area of Spanish.
I have experience working in the realms of general maintenance, hospitality, and customer service. I worked for the Beaverton School District Maintenance Department for 3 summers where I was doing painting work on the interiors and exteriors of schools as well as manual labor. The school improvement team would travel from one school site to the next moving classroom furniture from point A to point B in order for the schools to be properly cleaned. I had to cooperate with teachers who were in the summer planning stages of their upcoming school year and assist in their moving of classrooms. My hospitality experience comes from having worked at a summer program at St. John\'s University in New York City where my responsibilities were to welcome parents and students to the venue and assist with drop-off support. Customer service experience comes from working hands on with a variety of Americans as an in-home caregiver for elderly and disabled clients. The responsibilities ranged from various levels of medical care such as hands-on assistance with bathing, toileting, dressing and eating or they included cleaning and performing errands. My role working with this community was to follow strict care protocols catered to the specific needs of the client and ensure their wellbeing and recovery. Working with this group of people instilled humility and patience within me and also gave me valuable customer service experience. I also had a short stint working as a waiter at a rooftop bar in midtown Manhattan during August 2019. It was shortlived because I ended up returning home to Portland in September - but I also hated seeing the amount of salvageable food waste that I had to throw away each day.
I have 3 years experience coaching the sports of basketball and volleyball to USA school children in English. My experiences include leading practices and instructing private lessons for elementary school age students, middle school students, and some high school students. More specifically, I have worked with a range of student ages from 2nd grade all the way up through 8th grade and on many occasions had multiple grade levels in one gymnasium space. In addition I served as assistant coach for a 10th grade girl’s volleyball team during a successful 2016-2017 winter season. Through the Portland Parks and Recreation youth sports program I acted not only as a coach but as a mentor, role model, and as a teacher. During my private volleyball lessons I was responsible for setting up my own equipment and coming prepared to each practice with a lesson plan and drills in mind. I successfully coached boys and girls within this program and provided some of their first opportunities to compete in a team sport. Collaboration and teamwork are a core component of my teaching philosophy and I find they are highly applicable to academic settings and athletics. I have worked as a member of a team and have competed on teams throughout my life. I consider myself a life-long athlete and I am 204 centimeters tall.
